We're excited by the potential that this Skills Competition offers vocational education students in the GCC region. Aside from showcasing the work of some of the most talented young people in the Middle East, the competition acts as a springboard for international competitive events sponsored by World Skills. These competitions feature hundreds of the best and brightest vocational education students from all over the world. It's an exciting opportunity not only to compete for worldwide recognition, but also to provide professional development opportunities for the thousands of vocational education teachers in the region who make this kind of demonstration possible.

We at GCC Skills are delighted to host the 2008 Skills competition and look forward to welcoming the finest student competitors from our member organizations. Vocational education plays a critical role in the growth and development of the region, and we can rightly be proud of all of our vocational students.

Abu Dhabi provides a beautiful, cosmopolitan backdrop for our first regional skills competition. The dramatic changes that have taken place in the city, and continue to take place as the city grows, are due in large part to the contributions of the region's vocational students. Support and recognition for vocational training is vitally important to the growth of our industries, and GCC Skills is proud to play a role in raising the profile of our region's excellent vocational programming.
